On Eagles wings through Pennsylvania's Past

Although we have been through Pennsylvania many times, we are still amazed at how many great sites are still left for us to see.

Today we were able to get out and stretch our legs and unwind with a hike along the lake at
Bald Eagle State Park, a 5,900-acre park in the broad Bald Eagle Valley of north central Pennsylvania.
The Lake laps the flanks of Bald Eagle Mountain, surrounded by forests, fields, and wetlands.
Walked along the lake and hiked to the lower section.
Sadly we did not see any Bald Eagles in the park, just this guy sunning himself as he leisurely crossed the road - a LARGE Central Rat snake. He spanned half the road.

As we traveled down the road we stumbled upon a sign for Eagle Iron Works and Curtain Village. Tracey being from the great Iron city of Pittsburgh, had to stop and see what it was about. And we are glad we did.

Eagle Iron works was the Longest operating charcoal iron plantation in central Pennsylvania. Founded by Roland Curtain, an Irish immigrant from Dysert, County Clare. In 1810 he established Eagle Forge with his partner Moses Boggs. The forge continued to operate for three generations. The blast house of the forge was powered by Bald Eagle Creek utilizing a water wheel.
A cool piece of history and a past CEO of Coca Cola of Irish descent was right when he established the Epic museum in Dublin to honor and display the Irish impact throughout the world.
See you tomorrow when we tackle the rest of Ohio, pass through Indiana and finish the day in Moline, Illinois for a Mississippi River boat Cruise.
